Expanded afternoon edition — September 20, 2026.
Open House New York’s first destinations include the Department of Transportation’s sign shop in Maspeth, the Flatiron Building at dusk with its restoration and lighting teams, Rockefeller Center’s gardens and the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park. The festival runs October 16–18; the full public program arrives September 25, with ticket reservations for restricted sites following October 2. Most destinations allow walk-ins. Official festival preview and release dates
The sign shop is the one I would investigate first. The city communicates through thousands of objects that almost disappear through familiarity: parking restrictions, street names, warnings and directions. Seeing where they are made could change an ordinary trip home. The Flatiron visit promises an entirely different pleasure—watching restoration and illumination make a famous facade legible again after dark. There is room for both kinds of curiosity over a weekend. Specific tour times, entry terms and selectable tickets await the full program.
