A developer known as MAAN has reimplemented Nvidia’s DLSS 5 neural rendering in WebGPU compute shaders. The browser demo reportedly works on macOS and non-Nvidia hardware; the model weights are about 147 MB and the compressed JavaScript runtime about 1 MB. Tom’s Hardware measured roughly one to two seconds per render on an RTX 40-series desktop, far from real-time gaming. Technical report and demo context
The achievement is portability, not speed. A browser implementation could suit architectural previews or inspectable 3D comparisons where waiting two seconds is acceptable. There is a substantial caveat: the weights came from a leaked DLSS library, and the promised source code was not yet published when reported. Treat it as a revealing reverse-engineering demonstration, not a clean foundation for a product.
