Arthur Nolan describes the song as a tragicomic pop treatment of Arthurian chivalry, nationalist mythology and the heroic stories musicians tell themselves about fame. That combination suits the band’s elastic, self-conscious indie pop: grandeur examined from close enough to see the bad stitching. The new record also follows a lineup change and Nolan’s recovery from alcoholism, giving the medieval imagery a more personal fight underneath it. Olivia Morgan, the band’s synthesist, directed the video as her first film experiment.
