Darren Cunningham released the eight-track album on Ninja Tune on September 18. “Overchord” begins from piano and a strained, soulful vocal presence before an awkward house pulse starts tugging at it; that description comes from Pitchfork’s review, not an implied listen. The friction is the reason to start there. Actress is often strongest when club grammar feels remembered rather than executed cleanly, and this track sounds like the album’s most legible route into its damaged surfaces.
The caveat is the album’s governing method: the same review finds Radical Frame deliberately disjointed, more a series of destabilized frames than a continuous late-night set. Give the track its full span before deciding whether to continue. Official Bandcamp stream · Ninja Tune album page
