Start with Gilla Band, Pugnello: noise rock shaped as a dance-floor physical event, unpredictable but rhythmically coercive. Then try Jules Reidy, Clerestory, whose A-side pairs 12-string language with JACK Quartet and whose second half refracts the material through voice, electric guitar and keys. Julia Jacklin's The Gem is the patient one, recorded above the Melbourne pub that gave her a home when she arrived in the city; M83's I Wrote You a Letter returns Anthony Gonzalez to a quieter Saturdays=Youth scale, with choirs, saxophone and string quartet carrying the amplitude.
