OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29. It says the model approaches Astra on agentic coding, computer use and professional work at one-fifth of Astra's standard token price. API list pricing is $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 per million cached input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. It is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex, but not yet Chat; an Ultrafast Codex option, advertised at up to eight times faster generation, is due later.
Those performance comparisons are OpenAI's own evaluations, not independent replications. The economically useful part today is narrower: 6.1 Sol lowers the cost of cached, repeated workflows while Astra remains the stated choice for the hardest research. OpenAI
