Archives arrived October 2 on Fire Records. Cathy Lucas, now in rural France, and Valentina Magaletti and Susumu Mukai in London made the record by exchanging song fragments and revisiting daily recordings. Members also changed instruments, making the editing of sessions part of the composition.

Start with the closing track, “Oral Tradition.” Fire describes electronic textures, changing rhythms and surreal imagery; the broader record’s instruments include cellos, zithers, kalimbas and homemade or 3D-printed flutes. That combination is an intriguing step sideways from the usual guitar-and-synth comfort zone. Play the single on the label’s release page · Album details.
