Surrey’s Priya Sharma, with Jens Koch and Eran Ginossar, proposes a Superfluid Helium Oscillator Quantum device, or SHOQ: a helium-3 weak link coupled to a mechanical element. Its electrically neutral superfluid could reduce susceptibility to some electromagnetic noise. The team’s roughly hundredfold error-reduction estimate is theoretical; a prototype remains the next step.

The paper describes discrete energy levels at millikelvin temperatures and possible micron-scale devices with millisecond coherence. That suggests a potential memory component alongside other quantum hardware, subject to experiment. This is a September research development, not a working October computer.
