Zoe Kazan’s 2026 seven-part adaptation, available on Netflix from October 1, gives Florence Pugh’s Cathy Ames more space than the 1955 film’s narrower slice of the novel. Start with the 51-minute first episode. Bob Strauss at TheWrap praises Pugh and Hoon Lee; Lacy Baugher at RogerEbert.com finds Cathy’s added complexity rewarding while noting that Adam and Charles receive less development and the philosophical themes suffer. The attraction is a morally abrasive family saga with substantial acting. The caveat is its roughly seven-hour commitment and deliberate, sometimes unsubtle melodrama. Requires Netflix access.
