John Wilson’s The History of Concrete is at IFC Center today at 11:15 a.m., 12:55, 1:30, 3:40, 8:35 and 9:05 p.m. The late 8:35 show is the best practical choice. The film runs 101 minutes.

It is only partly a history of concrete. Matt Zoller Seitz describes a feature-length continuation of Wilson’s digressive observational method: failed financing calls, residual checks worth less than a dollar, bricklaying contests, sidewalks and the people attached to all of them. That mixture is precisely the case for seeing it in New York rather than treating the title as a homework assignment.

Today’s action: choose the 8:35 show if it appeals; live ticket inventory was not confirmed.
