The $17 billion Walleye hired Jordan Tanner from Balyasny and Anna Dev from Millennium, both expected to start in mid-2027. Tanner’s remit includes AI-driven collaboration across strategic teams; Dev will focus on investment talent and external opportunities. Walleye added 14 external managers to equity long-short in 2026 and planned three more. Business Insider
The current report adds names, timing and remits. The fact that external managers account for half of Walleye’s equity long-short market exposure was already covered and is context, not new information.
The phrase “AI-driven collaboration” leaves a consequential design question unanswered. Common research tooling and evaluation infrastructure are one operating model; sharing live investment research across employees and external managers is another. Those arrangements create different permissions, information barriers and attribution problems. The article does not say which Tanner is being asked to build.
Performance is a separate reported fact, not an established cause of the hiring. Walleye’s multistrategy fund was down 0.5% year to date versus a 6% gain for PivotalPath’s multistrategy index, after gaining 15.5% in 2025.
