Primers for a Handmade Utopia follows Northern California builders through photographs, oral histories, tools and period publications. Salvaged materials and improvised methods produced homes that kept changing with their inhabitants.
The exhibition’s interest lies in that continuing construction: exact geometries meeting uneven materials and lives that refuse to stay fixed.
The exhibition is listed through October 29 at Cooper Union’s Foundation Building, 7 East 7th Street. Check the exhibition page for current public hours before visiting.
