Three minutes and three seconds, from Distance in Static, released yesterday, September 11. Start with the official Bandcamp track, not the entire 50-minute album.

Pitchfork’s first review is dissatisfied with much of the record’s frictionless polish, but singles out this collaboration as immersive, with Aftab’s Urdu vocal transformed into layers of sound. That supplies a plausible route into the nocturnal, enveloping territory associated with Portishead and Chromatics, with a very different voice at its center. The description is the critic’s, not a claim of firsthand listening. Megan Buerger’s review

The qualified recommendation is the useful one. You need not subscribe to an album’s entire worldview to keep its best three minutes.
