Patricia Howard and Ed Szymanski are building Chippy’s at 21 East Seventh Street, a counter-service home for the fish and chips that made Dame famous. The announced menu is unusually clear: fish and chips for $16, a fried-fish sandwich for $10, chips for $6 and fried fish nuggets for $6. The plan includes a waiting lounge and main dining room, useful infrastructure for a popular casual restaurant. Direct opening report
The appeal is immediate, but the announced September opening still lacks a confirmed first service. Wait for that confirmation before heading down. Fish and chips gives a kitchen very little camouflage: crisp coating, moist fish and chips worth finishing after the fish is gone. If they can deliver that at the stated price after the initial rush, Chippy’s becomes somewhere good that fits into an evening without negotiations.
