The Day

London: walk earlier, keep the umbrella close

It is about 56°F and cloudy before dawn; expect a 73°F high and 53°F low, with sun and high cloud this morning before a mostly cloudy afternoon and a possible shower. NYC gets the difficult weather: about 58°F with rain now, reaching 67°F as intermittent rain becomes steadier and strong gusts continue. The wind advisory runs until noon ET; the coastal-flood warning remains in force through 6 p.m. ET, with the Sunday morning high tide the chief concern for low waterfront routes. Davidson Kempner buys into agricultural bank risk

The British Business Bank's September 24 announcement describes an ENABLE guarantee covering an Oxbury lending portfolio of up to £500 million, approximately $663 million. Davidson Kempner supplies junior investment; the public guarantee covers the senior position; Oxbury retains part of the credit risk on every underlying agreement. The portfolio ceiling is not the size of Davidson Kempner's check.

This is only the second ENABLE bank transaction to include a junior investor. For a specialist agricultural lender, the structure can release capital supporting further loans while bringing an institutional credit investor into a portfolio it would otherwise have to originate or purchase. The government-backed senior exposure and privately funded junior exposure have different economics. Attachment points, the junior investment's size and pricing were not disclosed, so the announcement cannot establish the investor's prospective return.

Oxbury also receives a pricing discount for loans meeting specified sustainability metrics. That creates a financing incentive at the portfolio level; it does not establish that every borrower receives cheaper credit. British Business Bank's transaction announcement

Taula's September has been painful

Hedgeweek, relaying Bloomberg's September 25 reporting, says Diego Megia's Taula was down 9.4% for the year through September 18, including 4.3% in September. The firm declined to comment. Taula launched in 2024 with a $3 billion Millennium seed and reportedly now manages more than $9 billion.

The dates matter: this is neither a completed September return nor a current daily mark. Public reporting does not identify the positions, share class or net/gross basis needed for a precise comparison with other macro funds. A large launch and a difficult period can coexist; neither tells us whether a particular trade, liquidity constraint or risk limit explains this drawdown. Hedgeweek's report

L1's gold strategy deserves a look at the vehicle labels

L1 combines long gold-mining equities, selected equity shorts and short gold futures. Hedgeweek reported 235% net from February 2025 through August 2026, versus 148% for GDX and 55% for bullion over the cited period. Those are reported strategy figures, not the history of the newer listed fund.

The listed Australian vehicle began its portfolio on April 20, 2026. Its separately reported April–August return was 18% net, while gold fell 6%. L1's own page explains that the longer presentation uses the preceding fund's record before the listed portfolio existed. Mining shares and bullion need not move together: hedging the commodity leaves operating, valuation and company-specific exposures. The reported portfolio was still 60–65% net long; “gold hedge” should not be read as “gold-independent.” September 25 reporting · L1's vehicle and performance definitions

Tradeweb puts its pricing model deeper into execution

Tradeweb's September 22 enhancement to AiPrice combines public TRACE information with proprietary data for US investment-grade and high-yield bonds, including additional intraday and European credit activity inputs. The outputs serve pre-trade decisions, automated execution through AiEX and transaction-cost analysis.

The commercial advantage is cumulative: execution produces proprietary observations that can improve the next pricing decision and make the workflow harder to replace. That is an inference about the business, not a measured performance result. Tradeweb supplied no quantified out-of-sample accuracy benchmark in the announcement. For a user employing the same model before and after a trade, retaining model versions and an independent benchmark matters: a changed estimate can otherwise blur the distinction between better execution and a revised yardstick. Paper2Agent makes methods callable

This September 16 Nature paper is worth catching up with because its authors released a working conversion pipeline. Paper2Agent builds environments, extracts tools from research code, tests them and exposes the resulting methods through MCP. Failed tools can be excluded; the generated environment and tools are fixed after validation.

One reported AlphaGenome conversion produced 22 tools in about 45 minutes for $14 on a laptop. That is the authors' case study, not a general cost promise. Their biological demonstration combined agents for psoriasis-related gene prioritization. The practical object is a reusable method with tested inputs and outputs, which another program can invoke without reconstructing the paper's software environment each time. Tests can establish reproduction of specified outputs; they cannot supply unpublished experimental judgment or make the underlying scientific conclusion true.

The public repository now provides a coding-agent skill, examples for Scanpy and TISSUE, and delivery instructions listing tested interpreters and dependencies. It remains a hands-on project with the source repository's data, API and hardware requirements. Nature paper · Code and examples

A 20% neutrino deficit may have a nuclear explanation

Gallium experiments have long counted fewer neutrino captures than standard calculations predict. A paper published September 24 proposes that the calculation has simplified how the relevant lepton wavefunctions vary inside the nucleus. Allowing that spatial variation and interference can lower the predicted capture rate by roughly the size of the anomaly for plausible nuclear transition densities.

Gallium-71 captures a neutrino and becomes germanium-71; the experiment subsequently counts the produced atoms. A discrepancy in that conversion probability can therefore resemble missing neutrinos. The authors constrain their calculation using the germanium half-life, but a definitive microscopic nuclear-structure calculation remains outstanding. This is a proposed explanation of the gallium anomaly, not the exclusion of sterile neutrinos or the settlement of every neutrino discrepancy. The preprint dates to December 2025; September 24 is the journal-publication date. Open paper and publication record · INFN's account

Save a weekday hour for Lucie Rie and Hans Coper

Waterman's free exhibition at 17 St George Street, Mayfair, brings together more than 200 works across four rooms on three floors, in the former William Morris & Co showroom. It runs through October 30, but A weekday visit is the practical opportunity: the gallery is closed Sunday and Monday, open Tuesday–Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and requires no booking.

Rie and Coper worked together at her Albion Mews studio for twelve years while developing markedly different pottery. The selection stretches from Rie's early Vienna work to her late career and includes Coper's hourglass and Cycladic forms. This has the scale to show development and differences between individual objects rather than merely supply a few famous examples. Loans from private collections also make it more than a showroom stock rotation. Waterman's exhibition, works and visiting details

The Met puts Krasner and Pollock's whole careers together

Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous opens October 4, with more than 120 works, and runs through January 31 in Gallery 899. The museum presents both artists' full careers, giving Krasner's changing practice space alongside the more compressed period associated with Pollock's drip paintings. Krasner's 1955 collage Bald Eagle is among the featured objects.

That makes it a strong exhibition pairing: two artists sharing a life without sharing one artistic trajectory. Admission is included with museum entry. October 1–3 are member previews; the public opening is October 4. The Met's exhibition page

An architectural partnership comes into focus downtown

Humanist Modernity opens October 1 at the Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, and runs through March 27. It examines Stanisława Sandecka-Nowicka and Maciej Nowicki as equal partners across drawings, graphics, structures and projects in Europe, the US and India. She became the first woman full professor of architecture in the US, at Penn in 1963; his career ended with his death in a plane crash at forty. The substantial run leaves several months to visit. KID is the Soho dinner lead for this week

Sertaç Dirik and David Carter's restaurant at 53–55 Frith Street, entered from Bateman Street, has a promising seafood route through its Turkish menu: bluefin tuna ezme, a large Cornish scallop with white beans, Galata-style grilled mackerel and greens with pomegranate molasses. Hot Dinners' September 22 visit priced the tuna at about $8 (£6) and scallop at about $19 (£14). Its visit was hosted; Time Out separately gave the restaurant five stars on September 16.

Those are actual recently served dishes, though today's menu and availability still need confirmation. Ask specifically about butter or cream in the fish and bean preparations. The smoked aubergine contains yogurt; cheese-filled dishes and dairy desserts are also on the menu. KID is closed Sunday, so this belongs to the working week. The room offers counter seats and a front section facing Frith Street; the fish-led route is a better reason to go than the opening's considerable chef pedigree. No reservation slot has been verified. Detailed meal report · Time Out review · Restaurant and booking route

NIGO's final week explores clothes and objects

The Design Museum's NIGO: From Japan with Love closes October 4, leaving one week to see it. More than 700 objects trace the Harajuku designer's world through vintage Americana, music, Japanese craft, BAPE and KENZO. A reconstruction of his teenage bedroom sits alongside hand-thrown ceramics and a full-size glass teahouse.

The attraction is how a collector's particular combinations become a design language. It should be more revealing than a procession of expensive garments, especially in its treatment of heritage references beyond literal reproduction. The museum is open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Thursday. Published adult tickets start around $20.30 (£15.29); selectable inventory has not been checked. Saturday's college football changed the weekend's story

Texas beat Tennessee 20–17 on September 26, moving to 4–0 while Tennessee fell to 3–1. Colin Simmons tied the Texas single-game record with five sacks; that is the consequential detail behind a three-point result. Florida's 52–28 win over Ole Miss was the emphatic result in the other matchup flagged yesterday. The next rankings had not been issued at this cutoff. Ravens–Cowboys: 9:25 p.m. London, with a field question still worth watching

Sunday's game at Rio's Maracanã kicks off 4:25 p.m. ET / 9:25 p.m. BST. Sky lists coverage on Sky Sports NFL and Main Event from 9:15 p.m. BST, requiring the sports package. The Cowboys' September 26 account says a Friday inspection involving the NFL, an NFLPA representative and an independent inspector passed the league's mandatory field requirements. That is the latest reported compliance result, not a guarantee about every player's footing.

Betting: PASS on a field-driven under

A forty-game soccer-stadium audit had 22 unders and 18 overs; its Wembley subset was essentially level with closing totals on average, and both earlier Brazil games went over. Those observations do not provide an independent probability for today's total. Poor traction can disrupt offensive cuts and defensive reactions. With no validated directional model and no fresh, timestamped FanDuel/DraftKings quote, there is no defensible numerical edge or entry price to print. Start the new Adult DVD album with “Cowboy on Aisle Three.”

The Leeds band's self-titled debut arrived September 25 on Fat Possum. The earlier single “Cowboy” is the best entry point. Far Out's four-star review describes dance-punk, synths, rave energy and irreverent singalongs, with this track a standout.

The attraction for LCD Soundsystem listeners is communal, slightly ridiculous pleasure rather than another record that asks you to sit in tasteful gloom. That sonic description is the critic's, rather than a firsthand listening assessment. Official track · Full album · September 24 review

Watch now: The Christophers

Steven Soderbergh's 2025 festival film, released in 2026, runs 100 minutes. Ian McKellen plays a fading painter whose children hire Michaela Coel's character to complete concealed, unfinished canvases as part of an inheritance scheme. The appeal is the friction between two forceful performers, fraudulent authorship and uncomfortable judgments about whose work deserves to survive. Expect a dialogue-driven chamber film, not a high-velocity caper.

For London, BFI Player lists an individual rental at £4.50, about $6; the BFI subscription is a separate entitlement. In the US, the exact film is listed on Hulu's subscription catalog. The UK rental is a straightforward option for UK viewers; US subscription rights do not necessarily travel. BFI title · BFI rental price listing · US Hulu title
